Mrs. Newman Thurs. 14th

Dear Parents,
I can't believe this week has gone by without my filling in the blog! Sorry!
We had three students stay for homework club this afternoon to organise their travel folders, binders, and lockers. Three other very organized students volunteered their time and partnered up with them to help. That picture of students helping other students is going down in my "Garden of Delight Moments" book, the place I record instances of the students in my class bringing renewal to places, to people or to situations.
You would not believe how many plums, apples, bananas, tangerines, and boxes of raisins have been eaten up this week! It is great to see kids snacking on food that gives them energy and all sorts of vitamins. Thank you to those who sent in money to help me purchase things like this. I thought I'd follow Mrs. DeBoer's idea and add in some fresh vegetables with a low fat dip as well, next week.
We had a pretty busy day today, probably the busiest this year yet, with a math test, a vocab quiz, and a French quiz all happening. I hope your children weren't too stressed out.
We had so many enthusiastic grade 6 students wanting to help out with students council this year we had to pick two reps from each class and take down names of others who would be willing to help out with bigger projects the council takes on. It is great to see such positive involvement!

Missing work:

Alpha Reflection from last week: Jeff Ng
I don't have my binder home with me to list specifics but I do remember that Anthony, Jordan, Jathniel, and Alaric are owing an assignment or signed form. I tried to get these written in planners today as I signed them. I am hoping these students can figure out how to solve this homework problem on their own, but if I see a persistent problem with getting homework done, I may ask you if we can make arrangements for homework to be done at school or during a time the rest of us are doing something fun. Maybe you and I could work on something together where a fun weekend outing has to be foregone because there are some outstanding homework assignments. How sad would that be, especially if other members of the family did get to go?!

Reminders:
A few students have not brought back the bright yellow forms about Thursday's homework club for organization and catching up on missing work. I will give parents a call next week that I don't hear from.
