News for Monday, June 18

Hi All:
Sadly, the weather forecast for Monday is for rain!  Thankfully, we have a Plan B which is to go to Watermania in Richmond for a swim from 10:30 - 12:30.  Today, I drove out to Watermania to check things out and see what our lunch options might be.  There is not a lot to choose from in terms of a quick take out lunch soooooo......we've decided to take the whole group out for lunch at 1:00 p.m. to The Old Spaghetti Factory which is located nearby.  We will cover the cost of swimming and lunch with the SAF so you do not need to bring a lunch or money with you.  You should bring a snack to have before we head to Watermania.
For lunch, you will have the following options.  Please think ahead so we can be ready with our choices:
1) Spaghetti with meat sauce or tomato sauce
2) Coke or Sprite to drink
You will also get a salad to start as well as bread and then ice cream for dessert.  If you absolutely detest spaghetti, we can see what we can do in terms of a substitution.  However, we can't make more than 1 or 2 because we are getting a special deal.  If we have any more than 2 substitutions, we will end up losing our special deal and it will cost much more.  So, if you really need to make a substitution, you will need to bring a note from home with an explanation.
Remember to bring your swim gear and towels.  Also, girls, please remember to bring appropriate swim wear for a school outing and bring a t-shirt along if you aren't sure.
Here's looking forward to a great day together on Monday!!

Homework for Theme Week

Note:  Next week is Theme Week!  Your homework assignment for each day of Theme Week will be the same.
You will need to:
a) Record planning notes for each workshop (4 for each day) which include key ideas and personal reflections.  You will need a minimum of 15 key ideas and reflections for each workshop.  You can use your handouts to help you with this.
b) Write 2 rough draft journal entries (your choice of two workshops) for each day.  English L.A. students are required to do 1 rough draft journal entry per day.  Each entry should be:
- a minimum of 200 words, 1/2 to 3/4 of a page double-spaced
- preferably on computer (font size 12-14, font style Comic Sans, Arial or Times New Roman)
- should follow the guidelines outlined on the "purple" sheet in your Theme Week binder
Your planning notes and journal entries are due each morning.  You will need to show Mrs. Newman that they are complete before you head to your first workshop of the day.  If they are not complete, you will be asked to work on them (as a hand written draft) in the library and you will likely miss your first workshop of that day.  You will need to show Mrs. Newman your completed notes and journal entries before heading to a workshop for that day.
